Hey guys,

Just finished another riffage session!

Ibanez RGT -> Boss GE7 -> Pod XT Pro (Metal Shop L6 Big Bottom)

EDIT: Just listened back to it on the soundclick player.. Some bits sound awful quality, over compressed drums etc! You get the idea anyway!

Another good clip, you continue to own the musicans forum with these riffs.

Do you use some sort of recording software on your PC to capture these tracks?

Nevermind... From your earlier post

Guitar rig in details was:

Ibanez RGT42DX
into
Boss GE-7 (Slightly cut bass, I find stock Ibanez pups to muddy things up a little Sad)
into
ISP Decimator
into
Pod XT Pro (Metal Shop upgrade, big bottom patch. I will share if anyone has a pod with the model pack upgrade).
into
M-Audio Audiophile 24/96
into
N-Track Studio software.
I also added a little BBE Sonic Maximizer on the guitar & a slight bit of Waves C4 compressionn on the lows & low mids to help the bottom end remain nice and tight.

As for the drums.. It's the very first DFH sample CD. It's ok, takes a long time to tweak, though.
The snare is one straight from CD with some heavy compression, slight EQ & Reverb.
The Kick is a multi-layered sample.. A DFH sample layered with a really clicky sample over it, toms also.
Cymbals are straight from the DFH CD with some minor tweaking.

Umm, main influences!?
Probably Unearth & Killswitch in this clip - As you've probably noticed heheh, sounds like a bit of a rip off!
Also bands like God Forbid, All That Remains & some smaller bands like Fell Silent & Tesseract..

haha no prob dude. yeah i could tell that those were what inspired that style of stuff you made, i was just wondering if i was right. my bands recording a new demo with 6 tracks in a week. im pretty pumped. its gonna be badass. we have some different influences though.

of course pantera, but also testament, exodus, slayer, megadeth. we expirement with different stuff besides thrash but its mainly a kind of thrashy vibe.

Thanks TK. I can't live without pre-EQ now

I've still got the stock pups in my Ibanez which I find a little muddy. Cutting a little bass with the EQ (100-300hz) seems to help. I geuss it varies from guitar to guitar, though.
I also add a very slight boost in the mids to give it more bite (800/1.6khz area on the GE-7).

i like how the drums sound. that's my biggest problem with home recording is programming the drums. i'm not a drummer, so making beats gets frustrating.

Yeah bud, it can be annoying!

When I listen back to some of the really old stuff, I cringe at how repetative & lifeless the drum arrangements are! They're nothing special now, but I've definatley learned a few things from watching drummers closely & listening to the DFH loops on the CD over and over again!

I usually think of a riff and record a rough take so I don't forget it.
Then I just listen back & compose the drums before recording a decent take of the guitars.
Sometimes I'll come up with a drum pattern I like & try and write a riff around it, though. It varies...!

dont get DFH2 its the worst of the lot, either get DFH or DFH:Superior.

I'm very happy with DFH. I'd prefer Superior, but don't have the money or the computer spec to run it as I'd like to.

Maybe in a couple of years when I get a new PC
