Hey everyone got a question, im a newbie at playing electric guitar, I was wondering am i going to get anywhere downpicking all the time or do i need to upick more does it matter? Thanks

you need to learn both son.

Learn your scales and arpeggios, alternate on every note down and up stroke.

alternate picking is best practice... this will help you immensely when it comes to playing quickly and efficently.
