Now playing (on yer instrument)
Rush - Stick It Out on bass
Pretty easy stuff, I'm a beginner though, so no Jaco and Wooten for me
A good choice if you want to impress friends who don't know a lot about playing
If you are practicing your own song, give us the title and genre (or at least a brief description).

Recently I have learned the warmup exercises from one of the Trivium guitar players. They posted a link to the information on their myspace page. It's a simple 3 note per string tripplet lesson but the scale that they use is one that I haven't encountered before, so this is a nice change to my routine.

Hotel California. I'm hoping to nail all the guitar parts and record / mix it on my laptop. im also using it as a way to experiment with different tones. its a lot different to all the stuff i usually play, so its giving my playing a bit of variety.

I've mostly been practicing my own stuff because I'm getting ready to bang out an EP and I'm on a deadline. Thankfully, I only have to worry about bass this time. The song I actually have to practice the most is what seems like should be the easiest: fast eighth notes kept in lockstep with a new-wave drum beat and staccato guitar line.

Fuck, I need a 5-string
I'm getting tired of having to tune down every time I want to play Mastodon, Sepultura etc.
Let alone bands that just use the B string, such as Machine Head

I had played five-string for about 8 years and recently embraced the wonderfulness that is the classic four-string.Maelstrom wrote:Fuck, I need a 5-string

hahah okBassPhemy wrote:Lots of bass players just refer to their B string as a thumb rest.
I think it's still better than tuning to drop D or playing an octave higher...

or just play it in a different key
although i wouldn't mind a six string bassaaaaah
currently, I'm writing my own grindcore songs on guitar, yeah, laugh it up. It's heavily influenced by Pig Destroyer, The Red Chord, Deadwater Drowning and All Out War. Good stuff, I like it.

Well, I always used it, but in the upper registers mostly. If you don't play a lot of metal, the lower registers on the B pretty much gather dust. I don't do a lot of lead or solo pieces anymore though, so a four-string is more than adequate.BassPhemy wrote:Lots of bass players just refer to their B string as a thumb rest.

what? i can play laid to rest. and nailing all the parts to hotel california isnt as easy as it sounds. there's a lot of little licks throughout the verses that are quite tricky. but LOG stuff is pretty straight forward. there's two guitar parts; one rhythm, one harmony.farbeyondrnk718 wrote:lmao ok mr hotel californiaDBS wrote:should take about a day to learn.farbeyondrnk718 wrote:lamg of god -laid to rest
